Gloriosa Sobriedade não deve ser tomada por uma música que defende alguma espécie de ascetismo cujo objetivo é alcançar algum prazer extramundano (como se pudesse haver algum mundo que não este), ou mesmo como recurso covarde para evitar o sofrimento que certamente é parte da vida. Como se observa na letra de Disciplina, “ascetismo apenas a curto prazo” é um necessário recurso de aumento da Potência de Agir. Por exemplo, suponhamos que você esteja num quadro de pré-diabetes e seu médico recomende que você corte os carboidratos refinados da sua dieta que você tanto ama; ou então que você esteja entrando num quadro de cirrose hepática e você precise cortar o consumo de seu amado álcool para não precisar entrar na fila de transplante de fígado. Você concorda comigo que para que sua saúde melhore é preciso haver uma recusa desses prazeres luxuriosos que, longe de estarem sob seu controle, o inverso ocorre e eles te controlam? E, mais do que isso, eles são parte da razão pela qual você está caindo num buraco cada vez maior? Isto é: ser sóbrio, estar em si mesmo, significa estar em controle de si, e para isso é preciso ser ascético apenas a curto no prazo, de maneira a consegui-lo. Essa é, a meu ver, uma das condições para conseguir alcançar prazeres ainda maiores dos que aqueles fugazes, como cheirar não-sei-quantas carreiras de cocaína. Pois vida boa é muito mais do que esses pequenos prazeres que rapidamente passam, em contrapartida danificando tanto a alma e o corpo. Claro: acima de tudo acredito que ser necessário criar condições sociais para que as pessoas tenham boas vidas; Gloriosa Sobriedade, entretanto, além de tocar no âmbito individual, busca tocar em determinados âmbitos coletivos da existência que não sei se apenas uma Revolução Socialista Libertária tem condições de resolver.

Glorious Sobriety musn't be taken as a song that defends some sort of asceticism whose only objective is to reach some extramundane pleasure (as if there could be another world that isn't this one), or even as a coward resource to avoid the suffering that is certainly part of life. As it can be observed in the lyrics for Discipline, "asceticism only in the short run" is a necessary resource for boosting the Power of Acting. For instance, let's suppose that you're in a pre-diabetic stage and your medic recommends that you cut off the refined carbohydrates that you love so much from your diet; or that you're entering a stage of hepatic cirrhosis and you need to cut off the consumption of your beloved alcohol in order not to need entering the liver transplant wait list. Do you agree with me that in order for your health to improve there needs to be a refusal of these luxurious pleasures that, far from being under your control, the contrary occurs and they control you? E, more than that, that they are part of the reason why you're falling into an increasingly bigger abyss? That is: being sober, being in oneself, means being in control of oneself, and for that one needs to be ascetical only in the short run, in order to get it. This is, the way I see it, one of the conditions to reach even greater pleasures than those temporary ones, such as sniffing God-know-how-many cocaine strips. For good life is much more than those small pleasures that pass so quickly, on the other hand damaging both the soul and the body so much. Of course: above all I believe it to be necessary to create social conditions so that people may have good lives; Glorious Sobriety, however, besides touching on the individual scope, seeks to also touch certain collective scopes of existence that I don't know if only a Libertarian Socialist Revolution possesses the conditions of solving.
